A Commons campaign calling on the Government to award the General Service Medal to those who served in the Armed Forces in the Suez Canal Zone 1954 is being supported by Colchester MP Bob Russell.
Campaigners maintain the medal should be awarded because this was an active service posting in a conflict zone where several servicemen were killed or injured.
So far, four people from Colchester who served in the Suez Canal Zone in Egypt during October 1951 and October 1954, have contacted Mr Russell and their names have been listed by him in a House of Commons motion alongside those from across the country.
The four are: John Clarke, John Hearn, Leonard Oliver and Stanley Snellgrove.
Mr Russell would be pleased to hear from any other local men who also served. He can be contacted via his Colchester office on 01206 710172.
