The controversy surrounding Frinton's first pub has achieved fame abroad.
Vera Doughty, of Kings Avenue, Holland-on-Sea, received a cutting from the July 13 edition of the Calgary Herald in Canada.
It said: "For some in this idyllic seaside town, it's the worst thing to happen since Nazi bombs pounded the beachfront. Someone has dared to try to open a pub downtown, right where everyone can see it."
Frinton town councillors are tonight expected to challenge a new bid for a pub in Connaught Avenue by the Ryan Group. They have applied to have the condition restricting use to Wetherspoons removed.
