Billericay just missed out on hauling themselves off the bottom of the table as they sought to do the double over Hadleigh & Thundersley.

Billericay made 47 before Colin Thornton (21) was caught. Stuart Powell (50) and Mark Harmer (22) put on a partnership of 52 before Billericay suffered a collapse.

Steve Ash (18) and Jason Curnick (14) added some much-needed runs and the last pair took the score past the bonus point milestone.

Hadleigh's main batsmen were Harding (4-42) and Jones (4-68).

Billericay's attack put pressure on the visitors' batsmen with tight control with Gary Marshall claiming two scalps.

Roland Revell (40) and Board (34) added to Hadleigh's innings before being undone by Harmer.

However, Billericay needed two wickets from the last over. Curnick bowled Andy Revell with the third ball but was unable to claim the tenth man.

Billericay found themselves in trouble as wickets fell before Mike Etheridge (27) and Nick Walter's (85) partnership steadied the ship. Hill (34) ensured the double century and maximum batting points.

Gidea Park and Romford's chase was based around opener Bowler (96), who was supported by Satsangi (36) and Aymes (30 not out).

Matt Hill (2-58) and Lee Blunden (2-47) led the Billericay attack, but could not stop the six wicket defeat.

It was the First win this season for the fifths after their bowlers held Greenleaf to 165. Roger Hayward's undefeated 87 and Jon Gould's 61 were the Billericay batting highlight.

Paul Johnson proved himself as an all-round star as his batting and bowling skills helped Old Southendian beat close rivals Southend.

With the bat Johnson smashed 35 runs, supporting top scorer Colin Davis who managed 65, despite the best efforts of Southend's G Butler who took 5-49.

Johnson then turned his attentions to attacking the Southend wicket and claimed 3-19. Andy Sasiadek also bowled well, with 4-38, and Southend's beaten batsmen's best efforts came from James Holmwood (26) and C Marshall (25).

It was an unhappy trip to Walthamstow for Old Southen-dian's despite a marvellous first-wicket stand from their impressive batting duo of Nigel Davies and Wayne Gollin.

Davies hit 50 and Gollin 37, but it was not enough as Walthamstow's bowlers took the rest of the Old Boys' team apart.

A Woods, 4-13, and A Shaikh, 4-38, did the damage for the eventual victors, before Walthamstow went into bat and concreted their win, inspired by an unbeaten century from N Johnson and 33 runs from the bat of A Smellie.

The Old Boys' best bowling efforts came from John Asquith who claimed 2-31.

Outstanding bowling from Tony Rolph helped Old Southendian defeat Orsett in this encounter.

Rolph claimed 6-33 off 17 overs as the Old Boys dismissed their opponents, although C Crooks tried in vain to pull Orsett out of trouble with 65 runs.

However, the Old Boys made sure of success as Duncan Cannon smashed a personal best of 47 runs and youngster Gary Smee hit 23, including three fours in the last over to win the match.

Paul Giess enjoyed a day to remember when playing for Chequers in idyllic surroundings at Felsted School.

For he dismissed both his father and uncle, the What Ho's captain, on his way to bowling figures of 2-25.

David Cornwell took 3-11, while Neil Auger wiped out the tail with 2-0 in three balls. John Aldridge (32) top scored for What-Ho's with Fred Benham, Daniel Albert and Mike Emery hitting 25 apiece.

Auger (27) and Graham Kitchener (18) put on 52 for Chequers' first wicket. Bob Warren (16) and young Giess, only 15, saw them home with an unbroken stand. Albert took 2-15.

Hadleigh-based Essex Carriers enjoyed an emphatic nine-wicket Reefers 90 League victory against Basildon and Pitsea.

The visitors went into bat first, but were dismissed quickly as Carriers' bowlers Roley Watts, 3-34, and man-of-the-match Lee Allen, 2-18, demolished Basildon and Pitsea's batsmen, with only John Good managing a creditable 57.

Carriers' batsmen finished off the job in style with a magnificent unbroken stand between Allen (64) and Appleton (67), who led their side to a comfortable triumph.

Despite a good performance from Andy Brooks, King John were beaten at Benfleet by Plessey.

Brooks top-scored for King John with 71 and got good backing from Roy Paul's unbeaten 46. Coull took 3-28 for Plessey, while Cameron and Dinish both finished with 2-39.

Plessey won with 182-7. The outlook was always bright thanks to Sunny's 42, while Bhups made 31. Lee Randall took 2-8 and Brooks 2-35.

Park batted first and were all out for 211 in this timed friendly match.

Focus started with a strong reply then lost two cheap wickets. They were close to their target when Eversley took the final wickets.

Tony Morgan made 53 for Eversley with Dave Alex-ander (40no) and Tony Westwell (27) also scoring well. M Butt (4-56) and K Butt (3-21) led Focus' bowlers.

In reply M Faulkner (64), K Butt (64) and M Butt (23) were Focus' best batsmen with Nigel Spicer (3-21), Tony Westwell (2-23) and Peter Woods (2-21) leading the Eversley attack.

A poor batting performance led to a heavy defeat for Eastwood's Saturday first team.

Nirmal Patel was the top scorer on 27 not out and Mack took 5-30. Knapman was the best batsman for Valley with 77 not out.

The Saturday second team succeeded where their first team counterparts failed in a high scoring match.

Roding Valley declared on 225-3 after Britton had helped them on the way with 101. Doug Whalley took 2-62 before Valley finished their innings.

Dave Crossley (65), Simon Palmer (64) and Phil Bartlett (56 not out) kept Eastwood on target before they eventually won with 228-4 with two overs to spare.

Eastwood's Saturday thirds paid the price for not scoring enough runs as they were bowled out for 176. Wukhas Khan led the batting with 39, while Harden took 6-54.

Taylor contributed 35 as Snaresbrook won by four wickets with John Davis Jnr taking 3-27.
