Billericay race ace Matt Davies is adamant that Sunday's British Formula Three Championship round at Snetterton could see him breakthrough to win.

Davies, 22, has had made an impressive debut in the series and currently lies second in the rookie tables behind Jenson Button and is sixth in the championship.

However, his Fortec Motorsport Dallara-Mugen Honda has been performing well at the Norfolk circuit all year in testing which has boosted Davies' hopes.

"The last test day I was third quickest and the one before that I was third," the driver explained. "And on the test before that I was the fastest of all.

"In these races I'm always the one that overtakes and goes forward, so I can win from any of the top three places on the grid."

Davies knows the key to getting podium places is qualifying well, but admitted at the British Grand Prix round at Silverstone last weekend he failed to put in a good qualifying lap.

The 22-year-old qualified ninth and finished sixth in the race which was held on Saturday, the same day as qualifying for the British GP.

However, he hopes that his knowledge of Snetterton will stand him in good stead despite only having raced at the circuit once, three years ago in the British Formula Ford Championship.

"I've always done a lot of testing there and I worked there for a long time at the racing school coaching people. I know ever inch of the track.

"It's got long straights proceeded by slow corners, so it's easy to look at Snetterton as a track where it's easy to overtake.

"The problem is that you have fast corners leading into the slow ones, so the loss of downforce makes it difficult to follow someone closely enough to get into a position to pass.

"Even so, there are lots of places to overtake while the field are sorting themselves out on the first lap. That's where I'm at my best, but hopefully I'll qualify at the front anyway."
