MALDON I..................................................195-7
BRIGHTLINGSEA....................................164-7
(Maldon won by 31 runs)
(Jaygate Homes Two Counties Championship)
Maldon first eleven travelled to the sunny town of Brightlingsea on Saturday, and were confronted with a hard but patchy wicket which provided a variable bounce.
Maldon won the toss and decided to bat and scored 80 runs in the opening 15 overs. The run rate then slowed after the loss of three quick wickets.
Later in the innings some hard hitting from Westwood (71) moved Maldon's score to 195 for seven after their 45 overs.
Maldon's opening bowler Harrington struck early and Brightlingsea never seemed to recover and Maldon won easily restricting the opposition to 164 for seven.
This win and 18 points puts Maldon back to the top of the league and on course to win the title.
