Colchester Sixth Form College student Robert Tanner is aiming for the top after training with Ipswich Town.

Tanner, 19, completed a one-week trial with the First Division club on Friday and is waiting to see whether Blues boss George Burley invites him back.

Burley spotted the talented goalkeeper playing for the college in a cup final at Town's training ground last season.

He explained: "I got a call on Sunday night telling me to be at the training ground the next day. Richard Wright has been fantastic and has passed on so many tips it's made me a better keeper already."

Tanner, who is going on to study sports science at university in September, added: "The experience has definitely whetted my appetite for a career in the game."
