The East U19 boys hockey team showed the rest of the country how to win.

Taking part in the Regional U19 competition held at the King Edward High School in Birmingham over the weekend, they proved their worth and walked off with the title and trophy.

During the two-day event they dispatched some excellent opposition. First to go was the South with an 8-1 win, then the East took on Scotland and trounced them 5-0.

Midlands was a tougher contest and although going down by two goals, fought back to win 5-2.

Wales pulled out at the 11th hour which meant that the East met Scotland for a second time but despite the Scots taking an early lead it was short-lived and the East boys dug deep and went on to win 6-3.

This was the first competition since the amalgamation and the East becoming the new East Region Hockey Association, setting the standard and making history.

The team, under the watchful eye of Brian Perks with Geoff Brown as Manager and Glen Prebble, Coach, were outstanding throughout the competition.

Jonty Clark finished as the highest goal scorer and seven of the boys have been selected to attend the England U21 training squad.
