Essex take part in the National Inter County Tennis Championships next week with the men's team taking their place among the elite for the first time in five years.
Stuck in group three just two years ago, the team has been revitalised under John Marnoch's captaincy.
They make their way to Devonshire Park in Eastbourne for their group one matches, knowing that a good performance is needed to keep them from relegation.
The Essex team is Richard Barham, Danny Ward, Matthew Coombs, Keith Tomlin, Vince Ranson, Michael Ellames and Simon Harston.
The ladies line-up for their campaign in Cromer on the Norfolk coast, but team captain Christine Jolly has been unable to call on British number 3 Sam Smith who has professional engagements.
The team is former professional Mandy Wainwright, Zoe Mellis, Lara Naqushbandi, Mary Collins, Amanda and Caroline Janes, Amanda Brown and Sophie Cockell.
There is still time to enter the 53rd Save & Prosper Essex Open Junior Tennis Tournament, which starts on August 2.
The event is being held at the Gidea Park Club and nearby Raphael's Park over six days.
There are events ranging from under 10 to under 21, and anyone interested should call Harry Brickwood on 01268 743838.
