Kim Wall, 16, from Heybridge, has been chosen to represent Great Britain in the World Youth Games in Poland this weekend, where she will compete in the 200 metres and the medley relay.
Last weekend, Kim, who attends the Willam de Ferrers School in South Woodham Ferrers, warmed up for the World Youth Games by competing in the AAA U20 championships at Bedford where she came third in the Junior Women's 400 metres.
Her time of 54.58 seconds has qualified her for the European Junior Championships in Latvia in August.
Kim, who has just finished her 10 GCSE's and will get her results in August, is looking forward to the 'Polish Challenge'.
She said: "The Great Britain team is 25 strong and we are hopeful of good performances and our main opposition is likely to come from the American team but we will give it our best shot".
Kim, who is one of three children to Richard and Jackie, added: 'my brother Ashley is a policeman, while my sister Melissa, is 13, and is showing excellent prowess as a long distance runner".
Kim flew out to Poland on Wednesday and returns to Britain on Monday.
