Delighted boss Mick Wadsworth said he hoped last night's impressive U's display against Norwich went a long way towards silencing the critics who have condemned his summer clear-out at Layer Road.
He said: "There are those who felt I had gone too far in releasing so many players at the end of last season. Last night's performance went a long way to show those people what we are looking to achieve and what we are trying to do.
"The lads that departed did a good job for Colchester United, but this club had the choice of either standing still or moving forward - I want to be positive.
"I hope what the fans saw last night will stimulate them to come back again and to believe that what I am trying to do with their club is right."
Wadsworth was reluctant to single out individuals but admitted: "Sagi Burton was awesome.
"He made the game look so easy - like he was playing with a cigar in one hand and a glass of champagne in the other."
