Colchester's Youth World Cup winners Ian Flanagan and Graham Napier have been included in England's Under-19 cricket squad to play Australia this summer.

The Essex teenagers have been England regulars for a couple of years and were key members of the squad which won the Youth World Cup in South Africa early last year.

They are currently playing for Essex in their four-day Second XI Championship match against Derbyshire, which began at Coggeshall on Tuesday.

Flanagan, a talented left-handed opening batsman and budding spin bowler, will be keen to sign off from his under-19 international duties with a flourish after spending the past three winters in the sunshine of Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand.

He will be too old for selection after the summer series with the Aussies.

Napier, once heralded by former Essex Second XI coach Alan Butcher as "good enough to become the next Ian Botham," is an exciting big-hitting all-rounder who has played a major role in Colchester and East Essex's promotion charge in the Shepherd Neame Essex League.

Even at his tender age the Colchester youngster is already a master of batting against the clock and he is gradually getting back to full fitness as a medium pace bowler following a career-threatening back injury.

England and Australia will play three one-day games - including one at Chelmsford on Saturday, July 31 - as well as three unofficial four-day Tests at Edgbaston, Bristol and Chester-le-Street.
