Against a team they had not matched in nine years of R.B.A. League competition, Central Essex B.C. took maximum points from Rainham B.C. by winning on all three rinks.
Cyril Robinson has been in such good form recently he could hardly lose and supported by the steadiness of Cyril Harrison Ron Jolly and Les Field, they won 19-15.
The formidable team of John Ereira, Dave Palmer, Brian Barnes and skip Len Wallis raced away to a score of 27-11 and on the third rink Henry Layer always appeared to be in control with Len Kirby, Geoff Kimber and Tony Baker, holding at the close a comfortable 20-15 advantage.
After making the pace at the top of the Brentwood & District League all season, the wet conditions in which their clash with Billericay B.C. was fought out seemed not at all to the liking of Central Essex.
At times they appeared to be uncertain of themselves, apart from Cyril Robinson who continued to follow a winning streak by skippering his team to a score of 19-15.
But Billericay were stalwart opponents and there was some nail-biting before Tony Baker's rank and file managed to squeeze home 15-13.
Len Wallis and company had to be content with honours even at 24-24, and Henry Layer's side looked about to repeat that experience before going down 17-15.
Whether this check in ambition undermined confidence, it is difficult to judge but whatever the cause the smiles with which the Central Essex team welcomed Clockhouse B.C. to King George's Playing Fields in another B & D encounter, gradually faded as the visitors took almost total control.
Only Cyril Robinson could steer his team from the rocks but the single point earned by his quartet of the nine at stake was small consolation.
To protect the sensitive natures of the other gentlemen representing Central Essex on a sadly memorable evening, the score is only being disclosed to those of proven strong disposition.
