There is still time for entries for the 53rd Save & Prosper Essex Open Junior Tournament being held at Gidea Park Tennis Club, which starts on August 2.
The event, which is staged over six days, is played on seven courts at the host club as well as 12 courts at nearby Raphael Park, Romford.
Organisers say they are hopeful of matching last year's astonishing entry of 370 youngsters, and are keen to maintain the attendance of many players warming up for the National Junior Championships held the following week.
Referee, Gordon Armstrong, of The Vale in Billericay, takes the reins for the fifth time, and has to cope with the logistical nightmare of scheduling 900 or so matches during the six days.
He said: "With players allowed to play in two age groups, the pressure is certainly on the officials to plan meticulously. Even then, the weather can destroy those best laid plans."
Gordon recently met up with Save & Prosper's Steve Sampson at Gidea Park to finalise details for the tournament.
The event is always a big hit with local youngsters, especially those with little experience of tournament play.
As well as the friendly atmosphere, there are consolation events for those who lose early on.
There are singles and doubles events for all ages from under 10 to under 21. Anyone interested should call Harry Brickwood on 01268 743838.
Next week sees the return of the Essex Men's team to the lawns of Eastbourne's Devonshire Park.
Having been in division three of the National Inter County Cup only two summers ago, Captain John Marnoch has rebuilt his team and seen them gain successive promotions.
This year his thoughts must focus on survival allowing the team to gain invaluable experience, before challenging for honours over the next few years.
The team consists of Danny Ward, Matthew Coombs, Vince Ranson, Keith Tomlin, Michal Ellames, Simon Harston and Richard Barham.
Meanwhile, the Essex Women are at Cromer in group two.
The team does not include British number 3 Sam Smith, but former professional, Amanda Wainwright leads the way together with Zoe Mellis, Amanda Brown, Lara Naqushbandi, Mary Collins, Sophie Cockell and Jane's sisters, Caroline and Amanda.
