An umpire suffered two suspected broken fingers as he officiated the Jaygate Homes Two Counties match between Harwich and Dovercourt and Eight Ash Green.
George Flint tried to take evasive action when Harwich batsman Nick Cowley smashed Alistair Hammond's full toss straight back towards him during yesterday's division two match.
He raised his left hand to protect his chest and the ball hit his hand.
Mr Flint was taken to hospital where he was put in a temporary plaster before being discharged.
Harwich picked up 18 points as their 208 for nine was enough to beat Eight Ash Green, who scored 199 for six.
