Manager Mick Wadsworth declared himself "very happy" after watching his new-look Colchester United squad kick off their pre-season programme with a goalless draw at Canvey Island.

"It was a game we should have won." he said. "But the lads moved the ball around well against a very useful Canvey team on a very bumpy pitch.

"Despite the lack of goals it was a very good work out for everyone. I used two different teams in each half of the match with only Joey Keith playing the whole game."
