Old Chelmsfordians continue to set the pace, after their 219 for eight proved to be enough to beat Galleywood.
A superb innings of 111 from Hodivala set the scene before tea, and after the break, Smith's four for seven from eight overs helped wrap matters up as Galleywood were dismissed for 106.
High Roding are within reach of the leaders, after their five wicket victory at Corringham saw them close the gap at the top to nine points.
Ron Hutchinson (70) and Roger Maxted (66) helped Corringham to 222 for six, a handy total, but Roding then got the runs for the loss of five wickets, D. Tredgett (51) and J. Clarke (52) leading the way.
Ingatestone made 181 all out at Great Wakering, Warren scoring 44 while David Howe took three for 45 and Lester Brandon three for 25.
Peter Streames (64) and Phil Adcock (56) led the reply as Wakering made 183 for three for a seven wicket success.
South Weald totalled 185 for eight at Broomfield, Howard Imbert (40) top scoring while Alexander and Foster took three wickets apiece.
Foster made 39 not out in reply but Broomfield finished on a disappointing 140 for six, 45 runs short of their target.
Writtle made 205 for nine at High Easter, D. Morgan (44) and J. Cook (39) the main contributors.
Chester made 35 in the response but with Marsh, Williamson and Preston all taking two wickets, Easter could only manage 120 for eight for an 85 run defeat.
