Maldon Yacht Club teenager Philip Marshall used the Snipe Open meeting at Broadstairs at the weekend as part of his build-up to the world junior championships.
He borrowed brother Iain's Devoti-built Snipe, which he will be using for the junior worlds in Spain in August, and with crew Duncan Read, finished in fourth place, just one point behind the joint runners-up.
Jean-Jacques Le Bon, six times French national champion, dominated the meeting, by picking up four first places.
Stone Sailing Club held their Cadet Open and Eastern Area Travellers meeting at the weekend and 23 boats attended, mostly from Burnham and Stone.
Saturday saw a brisk F4 wind and there were a few capsizes.
Sophie Harrison and Nick Johnson from Royal Corinthian Yacht Club's Corinthian Otters led the first race from start to finish, as did Stone's William Rogers and Zoe Atkins in race two.
There was a lighter breeze on Sunday and the fifth race was abandoned due to a lack of wind, but not before John Elphinstone and Simon Green - third in their own club's Open meeting the previous week - had clinched overall victory ahead of club mates Harrison and Johnson.
Simon McCarthy and Harry Harris made it a clean sweep for the Otters, with Rogers and Atkins finishing as the leading Stone boat.
Reigning Squib national champion Peter Marchant, of the Burnham Sailing Club, lost his title when he finished third in the national championships at Plymouth last week.
Christian Brewer, of Burnham, in What's The Story, was seventh.
Though Marchant, who was also runner-up in last year's Squib Inland Championships, failed to regain his title, he is not too disappointed.
He has done little sailing this year because he is having a new Squib built, and only decided to defend his title after the owner of his old Squib, Blood, Sweat and Tears, kindly allowed him to borrow it for the week.
