Members of the Glendene CC had a successful weekend to reflect upon.
On Friday evening, at Welwyn Track, Richard Whitehorn, won the 'Devil Take the Hindmost' for the second successive week.
In this race the last rider to cross the finish line on each lap is excluded.
Richard broke away on lap two and stayed away for the remaining 15 laps to win by half a lap. His younger brother, Edward, also gained success with a third place in the Juvenile four lap scratch race.
On Saturday at the Eastway Cycle Circuit, in the Catford CC promoted League of Veteran Racing Cyclists race, Tony Woodcock came second in the 40-55 age category.
Tony broke way with three laps to go to join six other riders who had escaped earlier.
In the sprint for the line Tony managed second place, while team-mate, Colin Mannakee was policing the bunch and won the bunch sprint to place eighth overall.
Also, at Eastway, this time in the Whitewebbs CC event, Richard Whitehorn came second in the Juniors race.
Richard was away with James Boon of the Welwyn Wheelers and led for the entire last lap, only to be pipped on the line by a distance of half a wheel.
In the fourth category race, Ben Davey, one of the Glendene's newer members was second in the bunch sprint to place fourth overall. Murat Ozdenya was placed eighth and Phil Whitehorn finished in 17th place.
On Sunday, The Glendene fielded a strong team in the Chelmer CC 25 mile Time Trial on the A12 between Hatfield Peverel and Mark's Tey.
Best of the Glendeners was Murat Ozdenya who, in only his second attempt at this distance, recorded 54m 57s to be placed fourth overall.
The event was won by Les Palmer in a time of 53m 18s.
Other Glendene members to ride were Richard Shaw (57m 34s); Nigel Harris (59m 43s); Paul Gilfoyle (59m 13s); Chris Broadway (1h 2m 13s); Chris Read (1h 8m 26s) and Gary Kerr (1h 20m 36s).
After having a series of wet and windy Sunday mornings, cyclists were given a peace offering and the Shaftesbury Cycling Club made the most of it.
There was only one major event on the local courses and the Chelmer Cycling Club promoted their annual 25 miles race which was opened only to Essex residents.
There was a disappointing field of only 95 entrants but nearly all faced the timekeeper in the hope of being able to record a decent time on one of the only dry Sunday mornings of the year so far.
The SCC fielded ten members and some impressive times were recorded, although their club champions were inexplicably not entered to ride.
Tony Hanlon was the fastest club member with 1.1.39, but Ian O'Neill's ride of 1.2.11 stood out as a brilliant time, D Buffoni improved to 1.3.46 and Wayne Greve was close behind with 1.3.56.
Other times were M Purvis 1.5.12, P Bolton 1.5.20, D Staff 1.9.47 and C Barnby 1.11.46.
The winner of the men's event was Les Palmer of the Leo RC in a super time of 53.18 which was way ahead of the rest of the field.
In the ladies section, Lorna Hanlon recorded 1.3.08 to take first prize and set up a new East Anglian Ladies Vets record for her age and Cathy Reed is getting back to last year's good form with 1.8.19.
