SPARTAN.............................................97 all out
HAROLD PARK..........................................98-4
(Harold Park won by six wickets)
(Friendly)
Harold Park met Spartan at Fairlop on Saturday in a 40 over friendly match and came away victors by a six wicket margin.
Batting first, Spartan were given a reasonable start against the bowling of Jamie Reynolds and Kevin Savage, by taking the score to 29, but the first change of bowling brought about the fall of a wicket, Crumpton being bowled by Russell Haley for 17.
Steady bowling saw runs at a premium and only Marsh, run out for 19 and Philp (10) reached double figures with wickets falling regularly as Spartan were dismissed for 97 having only used 32 of their allotted 40 overs.
For Park the wickets were shared between Jamie Reynolds (2-26), Russell Haley (1-9), and Ian Blair (2-26) while David Leadbeater (4-16) was the most successful.
Park set off in reply with Jamie Reynolds promoted in the batting order to open the innings with the previous week's centurion, David Fenton.
However, with perhaps thoughts of the barbecue he was attending later in the day, Reynolds did not occupy the crease for long, as he fell to Sehmi for six with the score at eight.
Cliff Leondiou joined Fenton and they took the score to 32 when Fenton was bowled by Cairns for 12.
Keith Haden suffered the ignominy of a 'golden duck', also a Cairns victim, and Stuart Duggan managed six runs before departing to Cairns and the scoreboard now read 41 for four.
Skipper Russell Haley joined Leondiou and they shared an unbroken partnership of 57 which took the score to 98 and saw Park home by six wickets with Leondiou finishing unbeaten on 39 not out and Haley 20 not out.
For Spartan, Sehmi took one for 22 and Cairns three for 18, but they could not prevent Park gaining their first win over Spartan for several seasons.
