MALDON I.........................................292-3

BRAINTREE I..........................255 all out

(Maldon won by 37 runs)

(Jaygate Homes Two Counties Championship Division Two)

Looking to maintain their 100 per cent record on Saturday, Braintree lost the toss and Maldon skipper Rob Barber elected to bat on what looked a good batting track.

Barber and Elliott took a liking to the rather short bowling of Rose and soon progressed to 137 off 20 overs.

Shaun Gould then came on to bowl and soon removed Barber for 100.

However, the bowling at the other end could not support Gould's efforts and with some indifferent fielding, Maldon totalled 292 for three off their 45 overs.

Keen to make up for their first half performance Braintree made a solid start.

Dave Denny and Graham Gooday shared a stand of 95 in their reply as in 20 overs when Gooday was adjudged lbw for 32 off Barber.

Steve Blyth then joined Dave Denny to take the score to 172 off 29 overs when Blyth was caught at point for 52.

Dave Denny, who was timing the ball well, continued on with Neil Williams and then Mel Fulgrabbe before the latter was dismissed.

But then, having aggravated his hamstring injury, Dave Denny was run out by Barber.

This proved the nail in the coffin for Braintree as Denny's beautifully carved innings of 115 needed more, but Braintree then were all out for 255, and woeing their poor fielding display which cost them the game.
