Colchester United will not make new moves to bring free agent Bradley Allen back to Layer Road.
The striker, who was on loan at the U's last season, has just been released by Charlton and is currently interesting Peterborough, Walsall and Grimsby.
But assistant manager Steve Whitton said today the club would not be launching a bid to sign Allen whose loan spell was ended by injury.
"We've no places for him," he said. "We've got our 22 pros and the only space we're looking to fill is for a goalkeeper."
Former U's Wembley hero Steve McGavin has linked up again with his former Layer Road boss, Ian Atkins, at Northampton.
