Maldon's first Sunday market will operate from this weekend on a six-month trial.
Tony Collinson, market operator, hopes it is tipped for success and will draw in visitors.
The day at the White Horse car park behind the walled area will run from 10am to 4pm, with an official opening by town's mayor, Paul Rew at 12noon.
"We are putting a mini park and ride run from the Promenade to the High Street as we get a lot of visitors," said Mr Collinson.
"We're also getting a tape done on the history of Maldon so not only will people come to market but also look at the town, learn about Maldon and hopefully come back."
As well as 40 retail stalls there will also be craft and home-made produce for sale said Mr Collinson.
He hopes farmers will also be interested in booking stalls so a farmers' and organic produce market can run alongside the retail stands.
"It will not only be the first one in Essex but Maldon will be the first town in the country to have a farmers' organic produce and retail market working together," said Mr Collinson.
Marion Wells, town centre manager said: "I think the Sunday market and the park and ride is a great attraction for the town and will help solve the perennial problem of thousands of people down at the Promenade and no-one aware what is going on in the town."
Any farmers or small holders interested in booking a stall should contact Mr Collinson on 01621 893147.
No long term commitment is required. The current Thursday and Saturday markets will continue to operate as normal.
