Colchester's first farmers' market looks like being a roaring success - if the response from local growers is anything to go by.
More than 15 farmers have either applied for a stall at next Friday's event or asked for an application form. A Suffolk organisation, representing a further 15, has also shown interest.
The new initiative, promoted by Colchester Council, will be at the heart of the existing market in Vineyard Street.
A range of goods, including fruit, vegetables, meat, plants, herbs and eggs will be on sale, and, in many cases customers can try before they buy.
Much of the food, produced within 30 miles of Colchester, will be pesticide-free and grown using natural fertilisers. Genetically modified and irradiated foods will be banned.
Similar events are being planned for Friday, August 6 and Friday, September 3.
Environmental initiatives officer John Buchanan said: "We are delighted to have had such an enthusiastic response from local farmers, and we are sure it will be a great success."
