This is the shocking sight that greeted a grieving mother when she went to lay flowers on her son's grave.

Underneath the dumped dirt lies the grave of her eight-year-old son.

Devastated mum Beverley Sincock today demanded to know how cemetery workers could have desecrated her only son's grave in this way.

More than 2ft of soil from a neighbouring plot was piled up on Jamie's resting place.

Fresh flowers had been dug up and toys squashed up against the headstone by staff at Pitsea cemetery.

Jamie died in April last year after losing a long battle against an immune deficiency disorder.

Beverley, 35, of Swan Close, Basildon, said: "I just felt sick. Who in their right mind could have done this? It's just diabolical.

"They've dug up a neighbouring grave and put the soil onto Jamie's. They didn't even notify me. It's disgusting."

Friends and family visited the grave almost every day to leave fresh flowers and toys.

Jamie's grandmother Margaret Long, 66, witnessed the damage.

She said: "I've never seen anything like it in my life, my daughter is absolutely devastated.

"All they had to do was take a wheelbarrow and move the soil.

"I just do not know what kind of a person would do this."

The incident comes just a month after Basildon Council workers were accused of "trashing" 20-year-old Daniel Dorney's grave at Pitsea cemetery.

Staff admitted turfing it over and were also blamed for leaving toys and mementoes dumped unceremoniously in a heap nearby.

Daniel's mother Ena, who was heartbroken when her son died in a car accident in February last year, said it took her seven hours to repair the damage.

Basildon Council chiefs said they would be writing to apologise to the Sincock family.

A spokesman said: "The council apologises for any upset that may have occurred.

"The neighbouring grave was not a new grave, but reopened for another burial.

"The earth from the neighbouring plot was put on top of Jamie Sincock's grave and this practice is now being reviewed.

"We will be writing to the family to apologise and everything will be put back to normal."
