Former Basildon schoolboy Martin Doyle is on top of the world - after conquering the icy heights of Mount Everest.
Martin was part of an expedition which successfully completed the 8848-metre ascent.
They overcame freezing temperatures to follow in the footsteps of New Zealander Sir Edmund Hilary, who first conquered the peak in 1953.
Mr Doyle, who now lives in North Wales, went to Woodlands School, in Takely End, Basildon and his family still live in south Essex.
Woodland head Andy White said: "We're very proud to have an ex-pupil make such an achievement.
"We hope he might be able to come back and talk to our students about his expedition."
