There have been some memorable sporting debuts in the past.
Take Shane Warne capturing Mike Gatting's wicket with his first ball in Test cricket in England, or Alan Shearer scoring a hat-trick for Southampton in his first League match way back in 1988.
They may have had all the publicity associated with high-profile sport but, in purely sporting terms, no-one can surely surpass the effort of Colchester Grammar School's Rory Conn.
Playing his first game for the school's under-18 cricket team, the 15-year-old produced a remarkable spell of six wickets in nine balls against Woodbridge School and was twice on a hat-trick.
The leg-spinner's sequence went wicket, wicket, bye, wicket, wicket, six, wicket, dot, wicket.
The spell of six for six reduced Woodbridge from 102 for four to 112 all out and helped Colchester to an eight-wicket win.
Conn, of St Clare Road, Lexden, has already been noticed by Essex and is having trials next month.
