Glendene Cycling Club's top three time-trialists found the weather conditions against them when they rode in the Road Time Trial Council 50-mile National Championship last Sunday.
A strong north-westerly wind meant that riders were having a difficult time of it when riding the final 25 miles.
Best of the Glendeners was Brian McCarthy with a fine time of two hours two minutes 34 seconds.
Nigel Harris completed the event in two hours six minutes while second man off, Paul Gilfoyle, rode the first half in almost half the time it took him to ride back, in recording two hours 15 minutes 30 seconds.
Earlier in the week, on Thursday, Darryl Leese took advantage of being back in England for a few days to ride in the Crescent CC 10 mile time-trial near Harlow, and was pleased with his 23 minutes 31 seconds given the windy conditions. Tony Whale also rode that evening to record 26 minutes 12 seconds.
On Saturday afternoon four riders from the club rode in the Eastern Counties Cycling Association 10-mile time trial near Newmarket.
Andy Beaman came seventh to record a personal best of 23 minutes 20 seconds, while one place behind and three seconds slower was Richard Shaw.
Darryl Leese was disappointed with his time of 23 minutes 51 seconds.
However, Gary Kerr, a new recruit to the Glendene, knocked over two minutes from his previous best recording 26 minutes two seconds and in the process took the Handicap Prize.
At the Friday evening Track League at Welwyn, there were placings for Glendene riders.
Tony Whale was second in the Class B 10 lap scratch race and third in the 10 lap points race.
Edward Whitehorn came third in the Juvenile Four Lap scratch race, while his father Phil went one better in the 10 lap block handicap.
At Eastway circuit, East London Richard Whitehorn notched up another win in the Vulcan CC promotion.
After four miles he and Davis Rosskilly (Wigmore CC) broke clear of the rest of the field.
They worked well together to stay clear of the riders trying to chase them down, but in the end it came down to a sprint finish with Richard crossing the line first.
In the Under 14's race younger brother Edward came third in his event. Phil Whitehorn came seventh in the fourth category race and Michael Fry came in 11th.
The following day, Sunday, saw more Glendene riders at Eastway, this time in the Ciclos Uno promoted event, and Murat Ozdenya was successful by winning the novices event.
He and two other riders broke away with two other riders with Ozdenya taking the sprint.
In the veterans race Phil Whitehorn came sixth while his youngest son Edward finished third in the Juveniles race.
