A teenager had his bike stolen by a youth who pushed him from the machine.
The 16-year-old, from Chelmsford, was cycling along the footpath along Princes Road, heading in the direction of the Army and Navy roundabout, when the incident happened between 7.15pm and 7.30pm on Tuesday evening.
After pushing the youngster to the floor, the thief rode off in the direction of Vicarage Road.
But the bike, a Saracen Raw mountain bike worth £290, has not been traced.
The thief is described as being white, aged about 19, of slim build and having dark hair worn in a curtain style.
He was wearing a white T-shirt and dark trousers at the time and was clean-shaven.
