A scheme to improve the quality of life for residents in Southend has been given the thumbs up.
The St Luke's healthy living centre - officially launched on May 8 - has finally gained planning permission to make use of a shop unit in Cluny Square.
The approval marks the beginning of a project aimed at identifying social, environmental and health priorities for a specific area.
Labour St Luke's councillor Reg Copley said he and fellow councillors Mike Royston and Joyce Mapp were working as an integral part of the project's steering group.
He said: "A healthy living centre must belong to the community it serves and be valued by people who use it.
"Only the people living within the boundaries of the St Luke's health living centre will know what the problems are and what can be done to improve things.
"We want them to tell us what those problems are and work in partnership with us to make the area a happier and healthier place."
The St Luke's healthy living centre will cover the streets surrounded by Eastern Avenue, Bournemouth Park Road, South Avenue and Hamstel Road.
