Chants celebrating Manchester United's historic treble rang out with extra fervour in one Clacton household.

When super-sub Teddy Sheringham levelled the score with a dramatic injury time strike in Wednesday's European Cup Final, the goal hero's cousin was cheering him on from his home in Eastcliff Avenue.

Teddy's equaliser was quickly followed by the winner from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in Barcelona.

Blane Roberts - a partner at Holland Insurance Brokers in Kings Avenue, Holland-on-Sea - said: "I thought the game was all over at 1-0, but Teddy seemed to make a difference when he came on."

Blane, 31, whose father Frank is the striker's mum's brother, still keeps in touch with his famous cousin.

"I'm a member of Clacton Round Table and Teddy donated the strip he wore in the 1998 World Cup against Romania for a charity auction at a boxing event we held," he said.

Coventry City fan Blane added: "I was so pleased to see him come on and do the business, particularly after also scoring in the FA Cup final at the weekend.

"Teddy's had an up and down season through injury, but he's certainly finished it in style."
