Museum assistants were yesterday counting the cost of a vandalism spree which left one of Southend's oldest buildings with broken windows.
Glass was smashed and bricks left strewn across the floor after the attack on 700-year-old Southchurch Hall, in Park Lane.
But despite an expensive security system, alarms were not activated by the smashing glass, leaving the vandals to get away.
