Bowlers again suffered on the superb Blunts Wall track - Aley hitting an unbeaten 132 for Westcliff, before Billericay recovered from a perilous position to almost push for victory.

Westcliff opener Marsden (36) was particularly severe on anything bowled short.

The young partnership of Aley, who survived a bungled run-out and was dropped at least twice, and left-hander Williams, who made a near faultless 80 not out, put on 208.

Billericay were soon reeling at 37-4, but Richard Walford (59) and Scott Noble - who entered the last over needing 12 for his century and fell when trying to hit over the top - revived them.

Billericay faced eight fewer overs than Westcliff.

BILLERICAY IIIs 119 all out

FIVES & HERONIANS IIIs 123-2

(FIVES WON)

Billericay batting - almost devoid of any application - prompted an eight-wicket loss.

Only Jon Batson (39), Dave Pumfrey (13) and skipper Mark Mayhook (23) - plus 28 extras - made it into double figures for Billericay.

Coleman (5-45) and Lawes (4-5) - whose overs were limited due to rules on young players - were Fives' main bowlers.

Then Robinson (30), Childs (44 not out) and Neary (an undefeated 21) easily guided Fives to victory. How many overs?

BILLERICAY IVs 210-6 declared

FIVES & HERONIANS IVs 208-7

(BILLERICAY WON)

Controversy over the number of overs bowled left Fives narrowly unable to scramble victory in an exciting contest.

Confusion surrounded the call for the last 20 overs, and Fives' skipper concluded that the players responsible at the time had been wrong - leaving his side with just one over left when they had expected two.

Billericay's innings had begun slowly until Jon Gould (40 not out) and Barry Jowett (61 not out) put on 98.

Fives' response appeared on target before Billericay made late in-roads, with Peter Mills (3-76) and Nick Walter (3-44) ensuring a draw. Great win

BASILDON & PITSEA UNDER-13s 86-6

(GREAT WAKERING WON)
