Residents in Holland-on-Sea are on the verge of winning their battle for a pedestrian crossing to be installed on a busy road in the village.

People are concerned about the danger of getting across Frinton Road to get to the chemist and shops.

They face the prospect of fast-moving traffic and having to make their way between parked cars and vans along much of the road.

But now residents have been told that a new crossing looks almost certain to get the go-ahead when Tendring councillors meet next month.

And if approved by members of the planning and technical committee it will be put in during the current financial year.

John Hector, who lives in Frinton Road and is also the leader of the campaign, said he was "delighted".

He thanked This Is Essex for highlighting the issue and Harwich MP Ivan Henderson for taking it up with Essex County Council.

He said: "Hopefully with this matter being brought forward we will be able to save many possible injuries occuring in that area.

"It is an extremely busy road which is also used by many pedestrians - a large number of whom are elderly, as well as young mothers with children."

Although an exact location will not be decided until the matter is discussed on June 23, it is likely to be in the area of the Frinton Road/Queensway junction, near the doctor's surgery.

Mr Hector added: "While the new location is not the ideal position it is a major step forward - and far better than no crossing at all.

"It is intended, I think, to help reduce the speed of traffic coming from Frinton via Holland Marshes and will be much appreciated by residents."
