A 45-year-old man involved in a serious accident in Billericay a week ago was today still recovering in intensive care.
Brian Street, of Surrey Avenue, Leigh, was taken to Basildon Hospital with serious head and leg injuries after a crash on Noak Hill Road, Billericay.
A hospital spokesman said his condition is "stable".
Mr Street was driving a blue Ford Transit van which was involved in a smash with a truck.
Residents are calling for urgent action to lower the 60 mph speed limit on Noak Hill Road before someone is killed.
Neighbours mounted a desperate anti-speed campaign 18 months ago and have renewed their efforts following this latest accident.
