Help is at hand - that's the message for hundreds of carers across the Maldon district as part of National Carers Week.
The Maldon Carers Centre has lined up a week of activities to mark the efforts of carers who often spend so much time looking after someone that they fail to maintain a life of their own.
"It's a vicious circle," said manager, Janet Cable. "They must take a break and let someone else come in and help them and make sure the cared for person realises this and does not get frightened.
"The carer definitely needs support - otherwise they can crack up and be unable to fulfil their caring role."
People come to the Carers Centre with a range of problems, such as benefits advice, how to obtain specialist equipment and how best to get answers from statutory authorities.
They also come for relaxation with a social group which meets regularly.
As part of national Carers Week Mrs Cable hopes they can highlight some of the activities and help that is on offer.
On June 2 Maldon MP, John Whittingdale, will be visiting the centre's headquarters at Brickhouse Farm Community Centre.
Then, the following week, from June 7, there will be an open day on Monday and Friday for carers and dignitaries to see the work of the centre.
On Tuesday there will be a craft workshop where carers and ex-carers will be displaying their craft skills and there will be a chance for people to have a go themselves, followed by another arts and crafts day on Wednesday for carers.
On Thursday, information and advice will be available from 11am to 3pm and there will be a chance to see the help available at the outreach clinic in Burnham on Tuesday.
