Southend Athletic Club's senior men scored their second successive league win against tough track opposition in Portsmouth.
The Garon's Park outfit won after scoring 127 points - four ahead of one time superclub Enfield and Haringay.
Team coach Roger Smith was elated and said: "Two wins in a row - I'm very excited. The team spirit we are building is something special."
Special praise was made of Neil Scrivener with Smith saying: "This under-20 athlete has to have a special mention for his efforts."
His all-round efforts kept points massing throughout the day with 16.08s for winning the A 110m hurdles and another tape-bursting effort in the A 400 hurdles with 57.6s.
A second place in the B string show and third in discus showed his urge to keep points flowing. He was then part of the 4x400 relay team.
Two other youngsters, Steven Brown and Jamie Webb, both enjoyed clean sweeps in the pole vault events. Both had to jump 4m. 20cms to gain maximum points.
Colin Miles 11 min. 57s in the A string 800m and a second in the A string 1500m with 4.09. kept the Southend pressure on the other teams.
Roy Hodgson took the B string 800m in 2.06 and had a second place in the B 1500 (4.22).
Greg Goodrem leapt to victory in the B high jump with 1.8 metres, while Simon Thomas won the A on two metres dead. He also triumphed in the B 110m sprint in 17.6s.
Dave Condon pulled out a massive 15.8 cms shot putt for victory and 45.7 javelin throw for second place. Tony Sullivan was big points scorer. He was first in the B 400m hurdles in 61.06 and second in both the A long jump and B javelin.
Southend now look forward to their home league fixture at Garon's Park on June 5th.
Southend were fourth among the men and runners-up for the women in the Eastern Counties Veterans League at Ware, Herts.
