Athletes from Chelmsford AC had their share of success at the recent Essex County Championships.
In the Senior Mens events Mark Sandford gained a silver medal in the 800m and bronze in the 1500m. Roger Mills was third in the 3,000m walk. Ian Hewitt was fourth in both the 100m and 400m hurdles. Rob Malseed won the 3000m steeple chase.
In the Veteran Mens event congratulations go to Geoff Green who came fourth in the 400m and set a new club record for that age group in a time of 55.8 seconds.
In the Junior Mens events David Sergent was second in the 110m hurdles, Stephen Welch was fourth in both the 800m and 1500m.
In the U17 men Andrew Owen won the 400m and came second in the 800m. Jordan Lad won the long jump with 6m.58. Adam Thwaites came second in Javelin and third in the shot putt. Kevin Quinn was third in the discus.
In the Senior Women's competition Ann Jones came third in both the high jump and hammer. Catriona Slater was third in the 200m, and Helen Cecil was also third in the high jump. Abbi Sanson came a creditable fourth in the U15 girls pentathlon.
On Wednesday, May 12, the Ladies and Mens Veteran teams travelled to Ware for their first Eastern Vets league match of the season, winning a large number of individual events and both matches outright, a good start to the season.
On Saturday the Ladies team will host a Southern Womens league meeting at the new Melbourne Park Track, and on Sunday the young athletes travel to Barking for an Eastern Young Athletes league meeting.
