Bomb disposal experts were called in when a fishing trawler netted an antiquated torpedo off the coast of Southend.
The boat, called the Hornet, dragged up the torpedo near Maplin Sands, a large sand bank off the coast of Shoebury, at 9.40am on Wednesday.
Bomb disposal experts from the Royal Navy were called in and used the Essex Police launch to get to the torpedo.
The torpedo was found to be inert at about 3.20pm. This is the latest in a series of forgotten bombs found in the Southend area.
Last month, builders found a shell while digging in London Road, Westcliff, and at the beginning of April, a mine was detonated out at sea after being fished up by a trawler off Southend.
