There were mixed fortunes for Thorpe Bay's Simon Cuthbert when he joined the Essex under-18 squad which took on Norfolk.
Watched by the club's tennis professional Jon Lee, Simon won one game and lost another in the singles as Essex were beaten 7-1.
Thorpe Bay's second team were soundly beaten 14-4 by Woodford Wells in the Essex League, although the club fared better in the Southend and District League.
Graham Bloomfield, Nick Williams, David Tubbs and Chris Knight all triumphed as Thorpe Bay saw off Southend Lawn 4-0.
Hockley's veteran ladies came a cropper at Westcliff Lawn when they were overcome 6-2 in the Essex league third division.
In a closely-matched encounter, Hockley men tied 9-9 with Chingford-based Whitehall in the Essex Senior League's division three.
Rayleigh were defeated 5-13 by Westcliff Lawn in Essex League division three.
Westcliff Lawn needed to rely on game countback when they finished level with north London club Cumberland on matches and sets.
Dave Lamb, Bryan Rivers, Steve Wynn and Tim Willcock finished 2-2 against Cumberland in the national over-35 club championships, but they won the tie by seven games.
Westcliff Lawn's men also cruised to victory in the Essex Senior League division one when they defeated Upminster-based Cranston Park 7-2.
Essex took on Hereford and Worcester in the national over-60 county championship and won 4-0. Among the Essex team were Rod Petchey from Connaught and Jeremy Lyon from Frinton.
Westcliff Hard Courts were finally beaten in the Premier Division of the National Singles League. The club travelled to Newmarket, where they lost 4-2.
There was success, however, for the Hard Courts' ladies team when they beat David Lloyd Centre Chigwell 17-1 in the Essex Senior League.
The winning ladies were Vanessa Irvine, Nathalie Bell, Anna Barton, Tracey Chesher, Staphanie Rodrigues and Dawn Handelaar.
