More plans to save Brightlingsea waterfront from developers will be unveiled tonight at a public meeting in the town.
Jim Lawrence, the driving force behind a campaign to save the waterside and keep it as an amenity for the town, has called the meeting to officially elect the committee of Brightlingsea Action.
The two-acre site has planning consent for a scheme involving mainly housing and retail until August next year and is earmarked for housing in the Tendring local plan.
It is being marketed for housing and developers plan to build 100 homes there.
Mr Lawrence said: "I have been pleased with the response so far and I expect tonight's meeting to be full.
"I will be presenting the team who has been helping me and asking the public to form a membership," he added.
Mr Lawrence said experts, including an architect and accountant, have already pledged support.
He wants to see the area used as a non-commercial waterfront amenity with open space, attracting visitors to the town as Promenade Park does in Maldon.
The meeting at Brightlingsea Town football ground in North Road, starts at 7.30pm
