Sought-after Ben Embery has signed a new deal to stay at Maldon Town.
The former Tottenham Hotspur defender ended speculation he is on the move by agreeing to stay at the club he has taken from the Essex Senior League to mid-table in the Jewson Premier.
Assistant Steve Jackson will stay with Embery who has attracted interest from a number of other non-league clubs in the area.
And to help Embery with funds for new players and better wages Maldon have appointed Mick Campbell as commercial manager.
Campbell, who has held senior positions at West Ham and other Essex clubs, is an experienced fund-raiser.
Maldon's general manager Alan Drewer said: "If we are to compete at a higher level the fincial structure has to be sound and secure.
"Match day support from the local community is below what one would expect from a town of our size but the Maldon Town lottery has contributed a significant amount which has enabled us to complete ground improvements.
"We have had excellent support from sponsors David Wilson Homes and Reyment Recruitment Services, together with other firms who advertise on our hoardings and programme."
Campbell's first venture is to promote a gentlemen's evening at the club's Saville banqueting Suite with guest speaker Tommy Docherty and radio personality Roger Buxton.
Tickets are available at £35 at the club house or by phoning 01621 853762.
