A Witham crane driver who was taken to Broomfield Hospital's intensive care unit after two containers of metal fell on him is "fighting back".
Joe McNally was taken to the Chelmsford hospital on Wednesday night following the incident at Seco Aluminium in Crittall Road, Witham.
Fire crews with special rescue equipment freed him from his ordeal.
He has been moved out of intensive care and yesterday evening said from his bed that he was getting wonderful care from staff and recognised that he still "had a good way to go".
Aluminium extruding business, Seco, which has been at the site for more than 30 years, is carrying out its own inquiries into the incident.
Health and Safety Executive inspectors will also make investigations.
