Chelmsford City have revealed their plan to have a side competing in the proposed new Southern Counties Invitation Under 21 League, which will provide an ideal platform for developing younger players at a senior level.
Already eight clubs have signed up for the league - they include Stevenage Borough, Enfield and -- with City planning to play their home games at the Writtle College sports ground on Saturday afternoons.
"It is hoped that at least 12 clubs will sign up by for the start of league which will allow one or two over 21 players to play, under a sort of gentleman's agreement, possibly senior first teamers coming back from injury," explained City manager Gary Bellamy.
"But it will primarily be for youngsters and provide them with an ideal platform to play good footballing sides and at good grounds on good pitches.
"It is also all part of their learning curve and the development of future players for this club which is vitally important."
