White Ensign have flown the Southend Borough Combination flag in glorious style this season.
Having already won the Combination's Premier Division title, they completed the double in superb fashion at Southend United's Roots Hall Ground when they triumphed in the top knockout competition for the Walton Cup.
Last season it was Shoebury Town who enjoyed double delight in the same fashion. However, this year they had to settle for runners-up spot in the league and were second best to Ensign, who won 2-1, in this final.
The game got off to an explosive start with Lee putting Shoebury ahead as early as the third minute with a well-placed header.
Ensign recovered from this early shock and launched some dangerous attacks and were rewarded in the 15th minute when Neil Benson scored a fine individual goal.
Shoebury then had an attacking spell and saw two goalbound efforts cleared off the line. The game was very competitive with no lack of co-ordinated football.
White Ensign went ahead after 42 minutes through the prolific Doug Wilkins, after a goalmouth melee. The ball appeared to be deflected in off a defender.
The second-half produced more excitement with both goals having narrow escapes. Goalkeepers were in fine form, dealing efficiently with many shots and crosses.
In the last 20 minutes, Shoebury pressed hard and forced a number of corners, but Ensign held firm to collect the trophy for the first time.
It was presented by Southend Veterans League honorary secretary Tony Hoskins.
