Home Office Minister Lord Williams of Mostyn was today (Friday) due to visit Witham to discuss initiatives for crime reduction.
He was due to meet MP Alan Hurst and Euro MP Richard Howitt as part of his visit to inspect the town centre CCTV system.
The £127,000 system was installed two years ago using Home Office funding, together with money raised by local authorities and the business community.
Lord Williams is also to visit housing estates outside the town centre to see how mobile CCTV units could be used to target anti-social behaviour and petty vandalism.
Mr Howitt said: "The excellent work done by local councils is fully in line with Government policy on crime reduction, particularly on targeted policing, the safer communities initiative and gathering evidence on anti-social behaviour in communities."
