As Central Essex BC and Brentwood BC share the greens at King George's Playing Fields, neither enjoyed ground advantage in an early season RBA League fixture, but at the halfway stage Brentwood looked likely to take both points.
High hopes for the Central Essex quartet of Ereira, Palmer, Barnes and skip Len Wallis, were justified for they looked comfortable.
However, Henry Layer, backed by Harrison, Dart and Field, had a fight on his hands while on the third rink, nothing was going right for skip Cyril Robinson.
Down 11-2, his team of Petchey, Baker and Witchell seemed out of the reckoning but Cyril motivated them back from the brink to score a remarkable 20-15 victory.
With the Len Wallis team going on to win 19-15 and that of Henry Layer winning a hard fought game 22-21, Central Essex took all three rinks from their neighbourly rivals, a first time achievement in this competition that holds promise for the 1999 season.
