Harold Park travelled to Walthamstow on Saturday as guests of Hainault Road and in a match played in a mixture of rain and wind, emerged as winners by 114 runs.
Asked to bat first, Harold Park were given a splendid start by openers Cliff Leondiou and David Fenton who batted well before Leondiou fell to S. Owers for 34.
Ken Chaplin joined Fenton and they kept up the momentum by taking the score to 136 when Fenton was caught by Waterfield off Lutt for 59, an innings containing nine boundaries.
The Hainault bowlers stuck manfully to their task, but scores of 35 from Ken Chaplin, and 26 from Darren Collins, saw the Park total reach 204 for five at tea with Keith Haden and Stuart Duggan unbeaten on 13 and 10 respectively.
The successful Hainault bowlers were S. Owers (1-44), Waterfield (2-37), Lutt (1-20) and B. Morris (1-15).
Hainault Road started their innings determined to make the Park bowlers toil for their wickets.
It was not until the 15th over that Russell Haley bowled Eddie Bishop and soon afterwards a tumbling slip catch by David Fenton saw the removal of S. Morris for 24, also off the bowling of Haley, with the scoreboard reading 41 for two.
Lutt was then well caught by Reynolds, another Haley victim and Hainault were struggling at 45 for three.
Further wickets to Kevin Savage and Ken Chaplin put Park in control until a stubborn last wicket stand between John Owers and D. Owers threatened to deny Park.
There were only two overs remaining when Peter Haines bowled John Owers for a valiant 24.
Peter Haines (1-18), Russell Haley (3-17), Kevin Savage (2-18) and Ken Chaplin (2-13) were backed up by keen fielding were the wicket takers, to help Park to their first win of the season.
