Sunshine greeted the new Mid-Essex Cricket League season, far removed from the cold and damp starts of previous years.
At Great Waltham, the home side totalled 239 for six against Aythorpe Roding with Gary Bloom scoring 83 and Phil Whettell an unbeaten 63.
Roding made steady headway in reply. Gravatt (59) and Dixon (87) contributing to a score of 240 for five and a five-wicket success.
South Woodham Ferrers were beaten at home when their 179 for nine was not enough against Little Waltham who reached 180 for seven and a three wicket success.
Springfield made 200 for five at Stock, Simon Garmes top scoring with 74 not out and Stock were then dismissed for 138, to give Springfield victory by 62 runs.
Great Baddow were going well at 69 for one against Tillingham before a double bowling change altered matters.
Winston Potter took three for 32 and Tim Blake four for 10 as Tillingham were reduced to 91 all out. Dave Elmore made 41 and Steve Chapman took three for 20.
Tillingham's reply suffered two early setbacks but skipper Chapman (45no) and Tim Blake (21no) saw them safely home to 93 for five.
