Maldon Yacht Club brothers Ian and Richard Marshall finished runners-up in the Snipe Channel Race, the Frangoise de Grace Coup, at Le Havre over the weekend.
They were level on points at the end of the five-race series with Belgian pair Deg Hartign and Jans Greet, but were awarded runners-up place by virtue of better individual race results.
The Marshall's, who were also runners-up in the UK national championships last year, fought well, but were unable to match the eventual winners, the French pair Jacques Frebault and Gil Boisaubert, who won four of the five races.
But second place was still ample compensation for last year when the event hit by gales and the Marshall's boat, like many others, was severely damaged.
Nick Wood continued his Hunter 707 domination at Burnham when he won the Gloag's Gin Eastern Area Championship.
He finished ahead of two boats trailed up from the south coast, 3 Little Pigs and Spike.
Wood enjoyed a highly successful season last year, both in and out of Burnham, including overall victory in the 707 class at Burnham Week.
Mike Harrison in Jiminy Cricket won his namesake trophy, the Crouch Yacht Club's Harrison Shield, finishing unbeaten after three races.
John Bovis and John Primett in Wild Gull lifted Maylandsea Bay Yacht Club's Sandhopper Open, after winning the first four races.
The Dayes family, Simon, Tom and Annette won the fifth race to take second overall.
Paul Manning, in Free Trader, won the Burnham Sailing Club's Jimmy Starling Trophy and the Karl Marx Trophy for Dragons was won by Peter Gampel in Marco Polo II.
