The indoor bowling season at The Falcon club finished with a resounding flourish last Sunday when the finals of the various knockout competitions were played before an appreciative audience.
The highlight of the day's play were two high quality singles matches between the respective Mens and Ladies contestants.
David Gildersleve, several times a winner of this event, eventually closed out 21-14 against Mark Morhall, who gave his opponent a testing time in the middle stages of the match.
The corresponding Ladies match saw a good battle between Jill Polley and Diane Ridley with each competitor holding sway at points in the match, before Jill finally got home 21-13.
At the annual prize-giving and presentation following the day's play, Eric Ainsworth was given a rousing cheer when the President, Alan Camp, invited him to once again receive the Denny Memorial Trophy, won the previous day by the Falcon Indoor Team (Double Fours) at the final, which was staged at Twickenham.
This was a fitting tribute to Eric, who stands down following many years of service as Chairman of the Selectors.
So the curtain came down on a highly successful indoor season at the Falcon where both Ladies and Gentlemans' individuals and teams performed with credit in National and County events, and where in the heart of the club, enjoyable competitive bowling was experienced through the season.

The result was a win for Vice Captain Doug Hobart who defeated Captain Colin Henton's team 139 shots to 123.
Winning teams for each side were David Franklin, Bernard Hopwood, Charles Luton and Peter Horn, together with Laurie Catchpole, Ann Metson, Ron Sibthorpe, Zena and Colin Henton.
The opening week was marred for members with the news that David Jamieson had died.
David was a past Captain, President and also a Life Member of the club, very highly respected and he will be sadly missed by club members.
